How We Work

How We Work

Working with adults

We will typically work 1:1, however we are happy to include others in the therapy as necessary.

We will not share information with others unless it is specifically requested by you.

The only time we will breach confidentiality is to prevent or minimise harm to any individual, including the person we are working with, or if we receive information about a serious crime.  This will always be discussed with you before speaking to others as long as it is safe to do so.

Psychological Therapy

Working with couples/families

With couples you would both attend the first session, following which, we would agree whether future sessions are together or separate.

With families, we aim to see all members of the family, however this would depend on individual circumstances.  As with couples, we will negotiate who is involved in the sessions and when.  This will continually be reviewed as change happens.

Psychological Therapy

Working with children and young people

With younger children (up to 14/15) we would work systemically, which means including family members and key people at different points in the intervention.  This will ensure that the family are united in managing challenges and help to sustain progress in the long term.

With adolescents, we will usually work 1:1, including parents as necessary.  This can be difficult for parents, but is important in creating a safe space.

It is important to remember that adolescents require confidentiality, although there are times when this will be breached; for example if we believe that there is risk of harm to another person, if we believe that a situation is abusive or to prevent a crime.  This will be discussed with you as long as it is safe to do so.

We use the same models of therapy with children and young people as we would with adults, just adapted to suit the individual.

We will ask for signed parental consent when we are working with anyone under the age of 16.  This is a requirement of our insurance company.

Working with professionals

Supervision

A contract setting out the parameters of supervision will be agreed and signed. Confidentiality is just as important as in therapy, and will only be breached in cases of professional misconduct or where there is risk of harm.  Supervision can be 1:1 or in a group, depending on preference and need.

Consultation and Training

Consultation and training are likely to be in a group format and can be flexible to cater for your service's needs.   We will think together about the aims of the consultation and training either beforehand for training, or as part of the consultation.
